RIO DACRON BACKING
RIO’s traditional Dacron® braided backing features high strength and low stretch and is unsurpassed in quality. A good compromise between thinness and the ability to make blind splice loops. It’s easier to knot than other brands that are very thin but have too tight a weave for a blind splice loop.
DOUGLAS SKY-G FLY ROD
Douglas’ new addition to the Sky Series, the Sky G, features all-new technology for performance like we’ve never seen. G-Tec keeps the rod blank lightweight and incredibly strong while efficient componentry adds to the rod’s application-specific design. A beautiful reel seat gives the rod a trout-specific feel and easy functionality. This rod is made for the angler who targets trout from distance and needs pinpoint accuracy every time. That being said, the rod’s performance inside 45-feet is also stellar. This is one of the most high-performing, versatile fly rods on the market.
REDINGTON BEHEMOTH FLY REEL
The Behemoth has long been a popular saltwater fly reel for its affordability and incredible performance. This reel has some of the features we love about higher-end saltwater reels, like a blitzing strong max drag, but is packaged in an affordable die-cast design. If ever there was a reel for the entry-level saltwater angler, this is it. Not to mention Redington has designed the reel to be more than capable of handling heavy fish for the intermediate and expert angler, too.
NAUTILUS CCF-X2 FLY REEL
The Nautilus CCF-X2 is one of our favorite saltwater reels on the market. This reel was the winner of our 2018 8-Weight Fly Reel Shootout, and for good reason. With a ton of max drag, great drag adjustability, and huge retrieval rates, this reel has everything a saltwater angler could ever need. If you’re in the market for your next saltwater fly reel, the CCF-X2 is one of the best options on the market, especially for the price.

SCOTT TIDAL FLY ROD
Scott has come out with a fly rod that epitomizes value-packed saltwater performance. The Tidal, a mid-priced saltwater series from Scott, sports a caster-friendly blank and some features to be excited about. While the Tidal falls short of the performance of the Meridian, that’s to be expected from a mid-priced rod series. The Tidal is made for flats fishing, tough conditions, and big fish. Scott has succeeded in creating a series that’s powerful, accessible, and highly functional. The Tidal is the epitome of decades of Scott design and craftsmanship. An added bonus: the Tidal is handcrafted from start to finish in Montrose, Co.
NAUTILUS X-SERIES FLY REEL
Nautilus may be well-known for their durable saltwater fly reels but they make a pretty stellar freshwater reel series, too. The X-Series features an open spool design and an ultra-large arbor to create the perfect balance of lightweight design without sacrificing performance. These reels are great for the avid trout angler looking for a light reel for freshwater use. That being said, the larger models can also be taken into the saltwater because of the reel’s sealed disc drag system. Whether you’re battling fish on the mighty Yellowstone or exploring the stream behind your house, this reel is one of the best freshwater reel choices on the market.
