Scott Fly Rods originated in a basement in San Francisco in 1973. Harry Wilson, a prominent engineer and angler, started Scott. Scott built fiberglass fly rods in the ’70s and was well-known for the creation of a 5-piece backpacking fly rod in 1974. Scott began building long rods for light lines as graphite technology populated the fly fishing industry in the ‘70s and into the ‘80s. The company moved from San Francisco to Colorado as Scott continued to grow. Today, Scott Fly Rods operates out of Montrose Colorado and is one of the largest rod companies in the business. Scott has also taken great pride in handcrafting their rods. All Scott Fly Rods are handcrafted in the USA, a duality that’s rare in fly fishing today.
