Description

Abel

is a premium fly fishing company. Perhaps you’ve heard of Abel Nippers or Abel Pliers. If you have, then you’ve surely heard of Abel Fly Reels. Abel was born in 1980 and currently resides in Montrose Colorado where its manufacturing facility and R&D facility work hand-in-hand. Abel has been defined by high-end fly reels for decades. They make some of the very finest and most expensive reels on the market today. Each reel is crafted with incredible attention to detail, immaculate artistry, and durable engineering. Abel has one of the most diverse color palettes in the fly fishing industry and many reels are even hand-painted. Abel’s artwork and craftsmanship set them apart in today’s fly fishing industry.

Abel’s mid-priced reel series is called the Abel TR Fly Reel. The TR is a classic click-and-pawl reel. The reel is extremely well-balanced. It’s also durable, lightweight, and easy to palm. The TR is a large arbor reel which means it has superb line pickup. Machined stainless steel adds detailed design and a bombproof drag system encourages functionality. The TR is crafted and manufactured in Montrose, CO. If you’re a click and pawl lover, this reel should be at the top of your list.

The Abel Super Series has been Abel’s go-to reel series since it came out in 1999. The Super comes in reel sizes from 5wt through 12wt and is extremely versatile. The Super has been tweaked and adjusted over the years by the engineers at Abel but some of the best features remain. The Super still has a smooth adjustable cork drag system and a strong aluminum frame. Again, the Super is a large arbor reel and excels when picking up line quickly. The Super is made with cold-finished aerospace grade aluminum. This reel, like all Abel reels, comes in a multitude of color schemes including Wild Trout, Brown Trout, solid colors, and many more.

Abel also makes a saltwater reel series called the SDS (Sealed Drag Salt). This reel won the best new saltwater reel at ICAST/IFTD in 2016 and has stood the test of time since then. This reel is one of the best saltwater reels period. The SDS includes all the features we’ve come to expect from Abel: cold-finished aerospace-grade aluminum, bombproof drag, and expert fit and finish. The SDS has a stainless steel disc drag system that is one of the very best on the market today. Trust us on this one, the SDS is a must-have saltwater fly reel.

Another award-winning reel from Abel is the SDF series. Based on the SDS, the SDF (Sealed Drag Fresh) is a freshwater reel that carries many features similar to the SDS. The big difference is the reel’s freshwater functionality. Abel says their home waters of Colorado inspired a scaled-down version of the SDS. Although scaled-down, the SDF still has an incredible drag and almost zero start-up inertia. The SDF is perfect for wrangling any freshwater fish.

If you’re an artist who loves to fish or an angler with an affinity for art, Abel reels are made for you. Furthermore, if you appreciate durability and bombproof functionality, it doesn’t get much better than an Abel reel. Shop Abel reels now and receive FREE SHIPPING on all US orders.
